Ottoman Empire 5 Kurush AH1327//6
Coin Details
Issue Summary
The physical coin was received in a holder graded MS 63, but the NGC verification photo (accessible via ngccoin.com/certlookup) shows the same coin in a holder labeled MS 64. The coin appears to have been initially graded MS 64, photographed in that state, then re-evaluated and downgraded to MS 63 before shipping — without retaking the verification photo. This creates a discrepancy between the physical holder and the digital record.
Expected vs. Actual
Impact
Undermines the reliability of NGC verification photos as a confirmation tool. A buyer or seller referencing the online photo would see MS 64 while the actual coin is graded MS 63 — a material difference that affects market value.
Notes
Both obverse and reverse verification photos clearly show the MS 64 label. The physical holder in hand reads MS 63. Same cert number 8477532-027.
NGC states that its certified coins are backed by the NGC Guarantee, subject to its published terms and limitations. NGC also states that if it becomes aware that a coin was encapsulated with a label bearing a clerical or mechanical error, it will correct the error in its records and display the corrected grade and/or description in Verify NGC Certification. Owners and prospective buyers are encouraged by NGC to verify certification details using NGC's verification tools.
