Morocco 5 Mazunas AH1321 (1903)
Coin Details
Issue Summary
The NGC label identifies this coin as AH1320 (1902), Birmingham Mint. Two attribution errors are present: (1) the date in the obverse central field plainly reads AH1321, not AH1320; and (2) the coin is a Paris Mint issue (Y# 16.3), not the Birmingham issue (Y# 16.1) named on the holder.
Expected vs. Actual
Attribution
Impact
Misattributes both the Hijra year and the mint of origin, corrupting population data across two distinct catalogue types (Y# 16.1 Birmingham vs Y# 16.3 Paris) and two dates. Both mint and year affect rarity and value.
Notes
The Birmingham issue carries a STRUCK IN ENGLAND indication; the Paris issue does not. The date AH1321 is clearly visible in the obverse central field. The Gregorian year (1902 vs 1903) follows from the corrected Hijra date.
